Obituary

Richard Kalish, 82, of Boulder passed away early Saturday morning, March 28th. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Mila, two sons and four grandchildren. Richard Kalish, 82, of Boulder passed away early Saturday morning, March 28th. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Mila, two sons and four grandchildren. A professor of economics for thirty years, he remained an intellectual force even after leaving his career: reading and leading discussions, actively taking on with the issues and ideas of his time. He and Mila met and married in Boulder and it was to Boulder they returned to enjoy their retirement. Dick was known to his family and many friends for his kindness, generosity, and wry wit. An avid traveler, he pursued his interest in history and culture in his voyages to China, Southeast Asia, Japan, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Norway, Russia, the Baltic region, and the counties of the ancient Silk Road. He loved to cook meals for his friends, bringing the food cultures of his travels to the table, and to celebrate every occasion with good food and conversation. Devoted to his community he volunteered for many years at Boulder's Food Share and the Meadows Branch of the public library. Beloved husband, father, friend, wise, good light shining now within the hearts of cherished friends and family who meant all the world to him, he will be dearly missed. Donations in his memory may be sent to the Boulder Library Foundation http://www.bplf.net/ or the Boulder/Broomfield Counties Community Food Share http://communityfoodshare.org/donate/.
